March 1, 2021. I have been fishing for Crappie on Percy Priest for 21 years and have five years experience as a professional Crappie guide on Priest. You won't see long Crappie rods fanned out across the bow of my boat. All you need when Crappie fishing with me is one spinning rod with one jig or 1/4 oz Bink's Pro Series Spoon tied on. I have over 50 brush piles on Percy Priest marked in my Garmin Chartplotter. I use the Garmin Panoptix Livescope to search my brush piles for Crappie and to determine numbers, size, and depth of the brush pile. Once I find a big school with big Crappie, I have my customers drop their jigs or spoons and watch them descend to the top of the brush pile. While jigging they can watch the the Crappie flaring up to take the bait. I call this "Video Game Fishing."
February 25, 2021. Daniel Brown appeared Live on the Percy Priest Anglers Facebook page Thursday, February 25th. He discussed the techniques he uses to find and catch fish on Percy Priest Lake. Topics he covered include: optimal locations on Priest to find fish during the winter bite, use of the Garmin Panoptix Livescope to target and catch fish, use and setup of A-Rigs when trolling, and use of Bink's Pro Series Spoons. He also answered questions from the viewing audience. This is your chance to find out his secrets to loading the boat on every trip so click the button below and watch the video.

February 12, 2021. I appeared on the Southern Woods and Waters TV show 8:00-9:00 PM, Thursday, February 11th. They showed the video taken during my fishing trip with Dayton Blair and Brandon Dowdy on January 6, 2021. We discussed the use of my Thumper to attract fish and how I use my Garmin Panoptics Livescope to locate and catch fish with Bink's Pro Series Spoons. I took call-ins from the show's viewers and showed my secret lure used to catch the trophy Hybrids. Click the following link to watch the replay of the show:
January 30, 2021. Put out of Fate Sanders Marina this morning at 7 AM with a father and son team. These two are big time Largemouth and Smallmouth fishermen who wanted to learn how to catch Percy Priest's big Hybrids and White Bass. Despite the muddy water from last week's heavy rains, they landed 4 Hybrids, 8 White Bass, and 6 Yellow Bass. They went home with a better understanding of how to find and catch Priest's superior population of Hybrids, Whites, and Yellows. They also went home with a nice bag of fillets. Check my Pro Fishing Reports to see where and how we caught these fish.
January 28, 2021. First trip today was with a return customer and his dog Seven. Every fish his dad caught, Seven had to lick it. Despite the high winds and freezing temperature, Seven got to lick all his Dad's limit of fish. On my first and second trip we were finding them on my Livescope and catching them on Bink's Spoons. My afternoon customers caught a big Largemouth and huge Crappie on spoons in 50 feet of water! My good friend David Weber saw that the first Bragging Board he built for me wouldn't hold all the fish my customers were catching, so he built me a new one that holds 30 fish. I named it the Mervenator. :-)
January 24, 2021. I did a lot of research on fishing boats before I bought my G3 Sportsman 2100. I selected the G3 for its huge casting decks, extra large 65 gallon livewell that is over 5′ in length, and tons of storage space. Yamaha is the only company that makes a fishing boat and the outboard motor making the G3 a rugged and finely tuned machine. And it comes with a five-year warranty. For year-round fishing, I purchased a DOWCO all-weather enclosure. All my customers love my enclosed and heated cabin. Nashville Marine is an authorized dealer for G3 Boats and all DOWCO enclosures. They did an outstanding job installing mine.
January 23, 2021. Put out this cold 25º morning from Fate Sanders with a return customer. Had my enclosed cabin toasty warm as we headed to our mid-lake fishing spot. We put out four rods and started trolling A-Rigs. As you can see in the photos above, my customers were comfortably seated within the heated enclosure watching their rods. Before long they were busy reeling in fish. Two of the Hybrids they caught both weighed in at 9.5 pounds. Guess I should start serving hot chocolate and coffee to my customers as they relax in my spacious G3 Boat. I still have openings next week so book your trip now before I leave for SeaSchool. January 22, 2021. Put out at Fate Sanders Marina this morning in a thick fog with Captain Paul Foutch, Mt Juliet Police Department, and Captain Eric Eldridge, Wilson County Emergency Management Agency. We started trolling A-Rigs mid lake and immediately started catching Hybrids and Whites. Captain Foutch caught the biggest fish and Captain Eldridge caught the most. Considering the long and stressful hours they work serving and protecting our communities, these guys really deserved this trip. They said it was the most relaxed they had been in months. I am so proud I was able to offer this trip to these two fine officers.
January 18, 2021. We put out at Fate Sanders Marina this morning at 7:00 AM. Two close hunting and fishing friends from Portland, Tennessee caught 25 Hybrids and 20 White Bass almost non-stop this morning. They were jigging Bink's Pro Series 1 oz Fire Tiger Spoons off Hong Kong Island. The largest Hybrid was 4+ pounds. While I cleaned and dressed their fish, these two happy customers had a great lunch at Hoppy's Harbor Grill. They took home over 4 pounds of fillets each! The winter bite is still going strong, especially on overcast days. I have openings Wednesday through Friday this week, so Book a trip and let's go catching.
January 15, 2021. Also known as venting, fizzing involves puncturing a fish’s swim bladder with a hypodermic needle to release excess air – all in the name of helping the fish survive the effects of being pulled up too quickly from deep water. The decrease in water pressure causes the gas-filled bladder to inflate, often pushing the fish’s stomach into its mouth. So when you release the fish, it likely won’t be able to swim back to the bottom. It may try, but unless the swelling is minor, and the fish is strong enough to counter the buoyant effects of the enlarged swim bladder, it will struggle, tire itself out, float back to the surface, roll onto its back and eventually suffocate.
January 13, 2021. For my morning trip, took out a young couple on a fishing date. The temperature was 24 degrees but these two were warm and dressed to kill, I mean catch fish, in their matching SitkaGear. My heated enclosure also helped keep them warm. The boyfriend caught the first fish but his girlfriend caught the biggest fish, a 12-pound Hybrid Hog. Trolled A-Rigs for first two hours then conducted Livescope training. On my afternoon trip, trolled A-Rigs and caught a 3-pound Largemouth and several nice Hybrids. This was a catch and release day.
January 11, 2021. We started out jigging Bink's Pro Series Spoons at Merv's Spot and caught about 20 Hybrids and Whites. A friend of mine told me he was catching lots of fish yesterday trolling A-Rigs. Luckily I brought my A-Rig poles. Before I could get the second rod in the water we had a fish on the first A-Rig rod. Then the insanity began. My customers were reeling in fish after fish continually for over two hours. I would see fish at 25 feet and yell get ready. Boom fish on! One customer had two double hookups. It was a cold and snowy day, but the fishing was hot.
January 10, 2021. Put out this morning at Fate Sanders at 8:00 AM and headed to Schoolhouse Cove. Started the Thumper, dropped the Livescope, and within 5 minutes Mom caught the first Hybrid. The son, his Mom, and her best friend continued catching fish until about 11:30 when we returned to Fate Sanders and had a wonderful lunch at Hoppy's Harbor Grill. We all had their homemade chili. The chili was to die for! We returned to fishing and landed lots of Whites and Yellows plus a large Crappie and a 10 lb Flathead Catfish, all caught on Bink's Spoons. They went home with over 8 pounds of filets.
January 9, 2021. Had a father and son team this morning, that were pro hunters. After 3 hours of catching 45+ fish non-stop, think they are going to hang up their guns like Dayton Blair and take up fishing instead. In my afternoon trip, had two father and son teams. One of the fathers' wife bought this trip for him as a Christmas gift. The wife told me her husband had taken their son out twice in his new boat and hadn't caught a single fish. Well that won't happen again because I showed him all my secrets, including Merv's Spot. These two teams caught 60+ fish non-stop in 3 hours. Was cold today but my customers warmed up inside my enclosed and heated cabin.
January 7, 2021. Two High School buddies, who hadn't seen each other in over 30 years, teamed up and caught over 50 fish non-stop at Merv's Spot (near Party Cove). Neither of these guys had ever seen a Garmin Livescope in action nor jigged Bink's Pro Series Spoons in 45 feet of water. We took a break for lunch at Hoppy's Harbor Grill then continued with non-stop catching. We caught several Hybrid Hogs and lots of Whites and Yellows. The weather was cold but the Hybrids were hot! This was a catch and release day. Check my Pro Fishing Reports for the exact location of this Hybrid hotspot.
January 6, 2021. Today Dayton Blair, Brandon Dowdy, and cameraman Richard Kirby of Southern Woods and Waters hung up their guns and went fishing with Captain Dan on Percy Priest Lake. After a morning of loading the live well, these former hunters had a great lunch at Fate Sanders Marina's Hoppy's Harbor Grill then headed back out to catch more fish. They loved Daniel's enclosed and heated G3 Boat and how he put them on fish all day. They are already planning for a return trip. Daniel will soon be appearing on the NewsChannel5+ Southern Woods and Waters live TV show. Stay tuned for the date.
January 4, 2021. First trip today was a free re-do from a pre-Livescope trip in November. This husband and wife team are avid fisherman and competed the whole trip. The wife caught the biggest (4.5 lb Hybrid) and most fish. She even had a double hookup on two Yellow Bass. My second trip was a Pastor and his 10 year old son. They reeled in 10 White Bass and 25+ Yellow Bass. Don't worry folks, we didn't even dent the massive school of Whites and Yellows that were showing on the Livescope. Cleaned and dressed close to 2 pounds of fillets. The Pastor's family will be eating good this Friday.
